It’s amazing and, frankly, quite humbling, when the passion for one’s avocation becomes a thriving and vibrant vocation. That’s the way Anderson’s began over 50 years ago. Now, in its third generation, the Anderson family still loves growing and has expanded its love of retail into other thriving home and garden business lines.
The Anderson history began in 1953 when Paul Anderson purchased 1 ½ acres of property on Jefferson Avenue. He soon erected his first
greenhouse and, in 1954 opened the doors to the public. Both of Paul’s sons would find their father’s hobby and passion to become theirs, as well. Clark took over the family business in 1972. It was at this juncture that he began the transformation into a retail operation. The first showroom was built in 1977 and, in 1998, the showroom was doubled in size.
Along with a larger facility for the garden center, a café and a home furnishings and accessories department was added.
The most recent expansion occurred in 2009-2010 with a new showroom that adds 15,000 square feet of retail space and a new, state-of-the art greenhouse at 7,000 square feet. In addition to added space, the facility gave birth to new product lines in home furnishings, as well as a Sweet Spot (full of delicious homemade sweets). The goal was to create a shopping experience that exceeds that of other locations. It’s an experience!
